H. 578 is an act relating to penalties and procedures for animal cruelty offenses that closes critical gaps in the enforcement of Vermont’s animal protection laws and holds offenders accountable for the costs of caring for animals legally seized during cruelty investigations. (Click here to learn more about why laws like this are important.)
The Vermont House recently passed this important measure and the bill has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
With only a few short weeks left in the session and many competing priorities, it’s imperative that Senators hear from YOU in order to show that animal protection is a critical issue important to Vermonters.
If your Senator sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee (listed below) it’s especially important to contact them since they’ll have to debate and vote on the measure before it has any chance of passage this year.
Please call the Sergeant at Arms at 802-828-2228 today to leave a message for your senator or email them directly. Your message: “I’m a resident of (Town) and am asking Senator (Name) to please support H.578, an important animal welfare bill. If you are unsure who your legislators are, click here.
